Connecticut Super-Agent Alexa Kebalo Hughes Has a Special Allegiance to Ukraine 

Alexa Kebalo Hughes had $100 million in sales, was REALTOR® Magazine’s 30 under 30 in the nation and was named the youngest-ever president of Connecticut’s Greater Hartford Association of Realtors, but 10 years of hard work came with a price. Alexa lost her voice. 

“Literally, I did not have a physical voice for two years. After all the appointments and showings and all my volunteer activities, I was shot. I just love this industry and making an impact, but my body was burned out,’’ she said.

Thankfully, Alexa can report that has changed. After moving to eXp Realty in June 2020, Alexa reports that her work/life balance is far more harmonious. She can also sing again. That’s a big deal. 

Her Ukrainian Heritage Instilled a Strong Work Ethic

Alexa is a second-generation Ukrainian-American, and it has become even more vital that she be able to perform Ukrainian Patriotic songs. She does this to honor her heritage and to support the country under brutal siege by Russia. 

“It is very important to me. My grandfather came to America from the Ukraine, all he knew how to do was to work hard. He took a lot of risks and he built our family’s stability and life in America by the swing of his hammer. What is happening there is very close to my heart. We have a lot of family there,’’ Alexa said. 

Her grandfather’s Ukrainian strength of character and resiliency is the bedrock of Alexa’s work ethic and can-do mindset. 

“I never sweat the small stuff. My grandpa, he would tell me that we are so lucky. He’d say to me, ‘I need you to remember how lucky we are and how hard we worked to get to America, to have so much opportunity,’ ‘’ Alexa said.

Mother-Daughter Team Saw Handwriting on the Wall About eXp’s Business Model

Alexa’s Ukrainian immigrant grandfather purchased a piece of property so that one day Alexa’s father and her uncle could develop that land and help others achieve the American dream. She likes to say he started the real estate bug. But it was Alexa’s mother, Cheryl, who blazed the trail with a very successful collection of real estate franchises in Connecticut. 

“When she was a stay-at-home mom, she said, ‘I could sell these condos,’ and that’s how she started. I went off college at the University of Connecticut and, never having thought I would get into real estate, I needed an internship and wound up working at my mother’s front desk. That’s where I fell in love with real estate.  I saw the hustle and bustle, the people coming and going and the fact that there was no ceiling and no floor to the business,’’ Alexa said. 

The mother-daughter tandem is one of the biggest-selling teams in Connecticut with The GoldBar Team’s lineup of 40+ agents across several states. Since joining eXp, Alexa has recruited more than 89 agents. She is a member of The Goldbar Team and is actively working with agents throughout the globe and speaking in places like Orlando, San Antonio, Phoenix and Alabama later this year. Not only can Alexa sing again, she can fly. 

“I feel freedom, peace and growth. More fun each and every day. No overhead, no stress, no offices. That stress of the typical brick-and-mortar brokerage. It can’t compete with this model,’’ she said.

Have you had any experience or success around eXp’s global revenue share and commercial businesses yet?

“One of the most significant things that happened to me since joining eXp is that I am making $5K a month in revenue share while I sleep. The day I realized that I had tears in my eyes telling my family about it. I was so grateful that I finally found a way that allows me to compound my earnings doing what I love to do… helping agents and making a true impact. 

What kind of collaboration have you experienced at eXp?

“It’s amazing to partner with friends all over the world. I can’t tell you what that’s done. If I want to write a book, become a TikTok genius, speak on stage and make an impact, eXp is all about collaboration. It’s not fun being the biggest fish in the pond. I want to learn and grow and that’s what’s happening each and everyday with my partners who are now friends from all over the world.’’
